VUE Environments in Ascension Le Film

Check out this amazing 7 minutes short film by five (now former) Supinfocom Arles (MOPA) students, Thomas Bourdis, Martin de Coudenhove, Caroline Domergue, Colin Laubry and Florian Vecchione.

Tools used: VRay on 3ds Max and ZBrush for modeling, lookdev, FX, lighting, and rendering, Maya for animation and cloth, and VUE xStream for the environments.

The short film received many prestigious awards including Best Short Film at the Angouleme Film Festival 2014.

VUE in Jupiter Ascending

Our friends at Art of VFX recently interviewed Simon Carr, VFX Supervisor at Method Studios, on their work for the just released Jupiter Ascending.

In the interview, Simon discusses how they used VUE as part of their 3D environment arsenal for the production of the 320 shots Method was involved in.


"We worked with a Maya base for the full environment put together by our Lead CG artist on the sequence. [...] VUE [was] used to generate some naturalistic rock textures and vegetation."

Meet Scott Brisbane, the head of Matte Painting at DreamWorks Animation. He has worked on numerous films including "Avatar", "The Croods", "Kung Fu Panda", "How to Train Your Dragons 2" and a lot more.

Join us as he explains how VUE was an essential tool in the production of each of film and gives great advice/tips on working as a matte painter in the industry today!

Scott teaches VUE classes at StudioArts, and is regularly a judge at the 3D Environment Competition.

Producing on a Deadline: Vue in Spartacus

Production of Spartacus posed unprecedented challenges; indeed, the logistics of successfully tracking and producing thousands of shots in less than twelve months were quite an achievement. In this spotlight we will see how Vue was an essential component of the solution.

We had the privilege of discussing the production of Spartacus with the show's VFX Art Director Peter Baustaedter, and Jean-Baptiste Verdier, the team's VFX Matte Painter.
