Detailed natural landscapes with high-resolution terrains and realistic vegetation can quickly reach huge polygon counts. While most 3D programs crack under such load, Vue is designed to handle billions of polygons with ease.
Vue offers high-end tools for creating and editing terrains, scattering vegetation and rendering truly spectacular, realistic environments.
If you create landscape visualizations for civil engineering, land planning, environmental or geographical research, you’ll love the extensive toolset and ease of use of Vue!

Advanced Tools for Detailed Environments
Terrains can be generated using USGS DEM elevation data, grayscale height maps, or created based on geological characteristics.
Procedural terrains display an unlimited level of detail that is dynamically added as the camera moves closer.
All terrain types can be interactively carved and shaped in 3D. In addition, over 20 geological features such as alluvium, glaciation, fluvial erosion and plateaus can be applied, either globally, or by “painting” them directly over the terrain surface.
SolidGrowth 3D trees and plants look realistic and detailed, yet are lightweight and easy to manage.
SolidGrowth plants are grown inside the software, so no two plants of the same species look exactly alike.
The plant editor lets you modify existing species, or create entirely new ones.
This revolutionary technology is a true life-saver when you need to cover large areas with vegetation and rocks (or any other object for that matter).
Paint EcoSystems directly over the terrains. Erase, rescale and color EcoSystems on the fly.
EcoSystems are designed to handle hundreds of thousands of objects with ease, and can be saved and re-used just like standard materials. Mix any number of EcoSystem layers to create vegetation and ground cover that vary according to altitude, slope or orientation.
A highly sophisticated material editor lets you create detailed natural rock and grass textures that respond to altitude, slope and orientation.
Render photorealistic water with accurate transparency and reflectivity, as well as surface and depth colors with adjustable murkiness.
Add stunning atmospheres with volumetric cloud layers, stars, rainbows, ice rings and realistic fog and haze.
Achieve photorealistic lighting with global illumination, radiosity, image based lighting and HDRI.
Import objects in all the standard 3D formats. Export plants, terrains, atmospheres and full scenes.
Take advantage of the full-featured compositing and synchronization toolset: camera synchronization, G-buffer and multi-pass rendering with Photoshop export.
Vue xStream - the Integrated Solution
With Vue xStream, you can create, edit and render complete, fully animated Vue scenes directly in 3ds Max, Maya, Lightwave, C4D and Softimage. This is the most streamlined and effective solution for landscape visualization.
Vue for Landscape Archeology
Adrian Farsnworth uses Vue in order to look at archaeological features on aerial photographs in their landscape settings. His model consists of a computer terrain generated from information on a local contour map, overlaid with an aerial photograph of the Derby region in England:
“For the last couple of years I have been using Vue to build models of the local landscape. Vertical aerials are invaluable in landscape archaeology, but adding the third dimension, with the ability to view the images from any angle, greatly enhances my ability to spot features.”
