PostPosted: March 31, 2007    Post subject: Problems with 3ds import

Hello, has anyone had problems with 3ds import? I have a 4mb file that I saved in 3ds out of Right Hemisphere's 3d application and trying to load it always crashes my Vue6 Esprit.

Speaking of that, does anyone know what the current version actually is? Mine says 6.00-04 build 288679. I had received an email saying that a final version was available and that I would be receiving another email to download it but I never got another email... so I do not know if I was forgotten or if I already have the latest version.

Thanks.

PS, any chance of linking to the actual forums from the web page? I keep getting logged into the old forums before I remember that there is a link to the new forums (yes I would use bookmarks but I am often reading from different computers.)

PPS, a big thanks to adding an updated forums though maybe we could red the forums without the ads, I mean I already bought the product, I just want to share ideas and fix problems Smile

To download the final version just download it again like you did with the pre-release. The pre-release download has been replaced with the final version. Just go to "my account" and to the order for the vue 6 pre-release. You should see the download link then, just download it again, it will be the final version.

I did not have crashes but generally have less problems with .obj files, i have much less problems since i use these. You can use the 3D Max demo version to export a loaded 3ds as an .obj file.

Thanks, I did not think the link was clickable... I kept looking for the typical finger pointer over the link (the link does not change when the mouse is over it) but sure enough, I clicked and then it worked. I'll see how the final version works. Thanks for the obj idea, I will give that a try too.

Oh, for me it shows that typical "finger" mousetip when i hover over the links. Well it's hard to get a website compatible with all browsers, settings and systems these days i guess. What counts is that the download works. Wink Be sure to backup your pre-release version, as it can't be downloaded again i think.

If it still doesnt work, then try the obj files. Also dont get worried, many bugs are already reported and will soon be fixed with the next update.

I got 6.05-04 build 289779 installed which is apparently the final version. It still crashes trying to load the 3ds file so now I will try converting it to obj as you suggested.

Do I really need to keep the pre-release version? I was hoping (if I did not already) to delete it and just use the new version.

I did notice that I have a bunch of item links that say they should be on the Extras CD but they are not there. I had redownloaded the extras CD from the "Download Extras CD" but there is another link under my order called " Vue 6 Esprit - Download - Vue 5 Esprit Upgrade (Extras CD): ExtrasCD.zip" so maybe that is different. Do you know if I am supposed to try mixing the older Extras CD with the newer one? It would have been nice if they labeled the items showing if they were part of version 5 or 6 or 3rd party so I could be more informed of where the missing objects are.

Thanks again for the link hint, at least I know that I am working with the latest version now.

PS, I use firefox, I guess their CSS design did not take that into account.

Ugh, while trying to look at the information I started getting
Warning: mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /apache/e-onsoftware/common/SQLConnect.phh on line 4 Warning: mysql_select_db(): Access denied for user 'apache'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /apache/e-onsoftware/common/SQLConnect.phh on line 5 Warning: mysql_select_db(): A link to the server could not be established in /apache/e-onsoftware/common/SQLConnect.phh on line 5 Failed to connect to DB: Access denied for user 'apache'@'localhost' (using password: NO)". Hopefully I did not crash anything.

You do not really need to keep it, but some users swear on it, i think there is a poser import problem that did not occur (or less worse) on the pre-release version. That will be fixed at the next update i think and then it wont be much more then a collectors piece.

For the extras CD: I did not download it again, i must admit i have loaded a scene or two from it then never looked at it again.
Does it contain new content or changes?

About the webserver error: This is for sure not your fault, dont worry.

No luck with the OBJ export either. I can open these files in other graphics programs but it kills Vue - crash and burn each time. I'll check some of the other output formats. All I want to do is punch some boolean holes in a box and it has become quite difficult!

It seems something is in this file that vue doesnt like. I can only recommend reporting the error to e-on tech support i fear.

Did you try doing it within Vue, the boolean operation i mean? I model a lot with booleans in vue.

I guess I will file a report. No, I could not use Vue for the boolean since I could not load the main file. I was however able to do what was needed in Google's free sketchup and then import that into the program I was using. I was hoping to use Vue for some of the final scene work too so maybe I can export the final model in lightwave and try importing that. There's got to be something that I can import into Vue.

Thanks,
Shawn

I was able to load it as a COB file but the rendering does not look very clear. At least I know that vue can read it. I started a support case for the problems though. Overall it seems slow to manipulate the file too. Hmm.
