Hi all,

Currently I have an Intel Core2 Quad Q8200 (@2.33GHz) CPU and Gigabyte EP43-DS3 motherboard. They're hardly archaic but I fancy a Vue-friendly upgrade, without spending a bomb on it. Smile

I've been reading some reviews and from what I can see, in general, having more cores is not always the best policy, although I'm not sure if that holds up for something as CPU-intensive as Vue. I see two immediate options:

Kit A

i7 2600k (£211) OR i5 2500k (£166)
ASUS Z68 (£72) OR ASUS Z68 Pro (£145)

Kit B

AMD 8150 (8 core) (£198)
ASUS M5A97 Pro Motherboard (£80)

Does either one look better than the other?

One other thing: I'm using Vue 10 Complete. This this have a 'core limit'? It's pointless getting an 8-core CPU if Vue will only recognise/use four of them.

Cheers. Smile

Andy.

Bump. Smile

To cut a long story short, I'd really appreciate any specific suggestions for a midrange CPU to get better performance out of Vue 10 Complete.

Currently I have a 4-core 2.33GHz Core2 CPU.

Cheers!

Andy.

PS On this page --> http://www.e-onsoftware.com/support/f.a.q/?page=5#a14, there is a link to the Vue 10 Complete system requirements, supposedly at http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_10_Complete/index.php?page=requirements. However, this unfortunately returns a 404. :/

Complete will use up to 4 physical cores (if multithreded), or 8 physical cores (if non mutlithreaded). The max number of cores a Vue Artist app can use is 8.

I use the same cpu, you will see 8 cores, 4 physical, 4 HT. If you get the right mobo with it you can also on stock fan OC the proc in turbo mode to 4.4ghz which tears thru renders like they are nothing. Great choice of CPU you won't regret it.

Thanks Christian - which CPU is it you have? The i7 2600k or the i5 2500k? Good tip about the overclocking. As it turns out my system's due a major upgrade, and extra fans and a cooler were part of the plan, so things should be kept comfortably cool.

Cheers. Smile

I7 2600K on a ASUS P67 Sabretooth motherboard, 24gb RAM, simply clicking on the turbo switch in the bios, changes the cpu to 4.5ghz instead of 3.4ghz. An after market cooler would be a good idea if this would be your plan. I haven't had any trouble unless im rendering hypertextures in which i turn of the overclocking cause it heats up a bit. My average rendering temps are around 43c, on overclock, the hypertextures shot it up to 85c, so i turned it off and then rendered at 3.4 at 34c all night last night. Most versatile little cpu ive used to date, i just wish there was a mobo around i could put another one of these in for dual awesomeness.

Thanks again. I take that as a vote for the I7 2600K. I'll see if I can make my budget stretch - it sounds like a brute. Smile
